WHO AND WHAT IS STREETBALL EXTREME

ABOUT STREETBALL EXTREME

Streetball Extreme was founded by Streetball Legend Tom "Conman" Connors back in 2002. Streetball Extreme (SBX) features the UK's & Europe's best streetball players, professional freestyles, dunk champions and multi basketball world record holders.

Conman was one of the most talked about street basketball players in the world after a number of hugely successful videos reaching millions of downloads/views on each video. Off the back of Tom's success he released his first streetball mixtape called (Streetball Extreme Volume 1) on VHS video back in 2003. The newly signed AND 1 streetball player "Conman" hit the world hard with this amazing, raw and ground breaking mixtape with never seen streetball moves, freestyles and basketball highlights.

Conman was joined by some professional basketball players, freestyle basketballers and up and coming streetballers from the UK which soon become the 1st Streetball Extreme team.

Streetball Extreme Mixtape Volume 2 was released on DVD and was available worldwide in 2005 throughout many stores and online shops globally. It was extremely successful in all countries it was available.  With Conman's success and the VHS/DVD's doing so well Conman approached The Extreme Sports channel with a reality style streetball tour series that would see Streetball Extreme take on Europe's best streetballers and teams. Streetball Extreme won 9 games out of 9 and was crowned the UK & European street basketball champions of Europe. The TV series was released in 2006 and took the world by storm. The TV series was called "The Battle For Europe" which aired on the Extreme Sports channel. It then went on to air in 56 countries across the globe and become a smash hit TV series and the most successful TV series in the history of the Extreme Sports Channel.

Streetball Extreme was offered a multi million pound deal by The Extreme Sports Channel to take the team across the world in what would have been a 5 year deal with a clothing and shoe line to fit. This deal unfortunately ended due to the channel selling to Zone Media of chellomedia soon after the Battle For Europe Tour aired in 2006. Zone media wanted to take the Extreme Sports Channel in a different direction and ended their relationship with the team and all other tour style concepts.

However with new popularity and success Streetball Extreme released their 3rd Streetball Mixtape called "To The Max" which was released on DVD in 2006 after appearing and playing in over 50 basketball open run events filmed for the DVD. The DVD was available from all good retail stores. The success of the TV series "The Battle For Europe" saw Tom "Conman" Connors plastered all over HMV stores with huge window displays saying OUT NOW!!. It went on to be the 2nd most successful Streetball DVD in history.

In 2008 Streetball Extreme was approached by Maoam sweets with a UK sponsorship deal that would see the team travel high and low across the UK in search of the most exciting basketball player they could find. The winner of the tour would join this incredible team Streetball Extreme. This was filmed as an online series called basketball idol.

The last of the Streetball Extreme Mixtapes was released in 2008 around the UK talent search tour named Basketball Idol and was called Streetball Extreme X-UP. This was the last of the mixtape style DVD they released.

The team was officially dismantled in 2011 to be renamed SBX Entertainment as the company headed into a new direction with an all urban sports entertainment company. The decision was made after a huge legal battle was lost against one of the biggest sports brands in the world regarding the rights to the Streetball Extreme name and brand. Unfortunately Streetball Extreme was forced to delete the website, all videos and the social media associated with the brand including any remanding DVD's and merchandise stock not to be sold and pulled back from sale. Streetball Extreme reached an agreement  whereby the videos could be re-released after a period of 10 years. This ultimately gave birth of SBX Entertainment and why after 10 years the website is back with all the videos and history of this team.

After 10 years (Tom said) I brought back Streetball Extreme for the players, for them to see what they did, how good they played the game of basketball/streetball, I wanted them to see what we all accomplished as part of this incredible team. I brought it back for their families and children who may not have seen them play basketball or streetball.

This was a once in a life time moment that will never be seen again. Its simply for sentimental reasons for all involved. I think its important for the future and as the players and fans get older and more sentimental they can all look back and see the videos, the tours, the open runs, the crowds, the TV shows, the autographs they signed, the pictures and places we played and toured. We was all welcomed with open arms from all the people who loved and supported us. I wish and hope all the SBX players will have a great big smile on their face and be proud of what they accomplished as players.

Only a handful of streetball players in the world have careers at this level, only few get to sign autographs, go on tours, its a big thing, it really is. I am proud to have given so many players the opportunity to play the game they loved, to play and have the recognition they deserved, to sign autographs everywhere they went, to be an inspiration to people, to be on DVD's and videos all over the world, to be famous playing on TV and appearing on multiple TV shows. To do all that from the game of streetball is not easy. Everyone should be proud of themselves.

I also did this for me, to see what I achieved in bringing this team from the streets of the UK onto the big screen of TV, to see my dream of taking on the best streetball teams/players in the world. It was a special  time of my life and I want to thank everyone who was involved in making my dreams come true. We were the biggest team in Europe/Asia and this side of the globe. We took on and rivalled the American based AND 1 team in popularity "the most successful streetball team of all time". If we had gotten the Extreme Sports deal we would have easily taken over as the number 1 streetball team in the coming years. It will always be in my heart and all the players/staff that was part of this wonderfully special time I truly love them all, for me its extremely emotional that my career in streetball/basketball is almost over after 22 years. I have been lucky enough to do many amazing things with basketball/streetball throughout my career but Streetball Extreme will be my biggest accomplishment, taking this group of amazing players and men and doing what we did cannot be topped.

Unfortunately people assume many things that are very "very" incorrect" when it comes to myself and Streetball Extreme but I'm proud of what I did and what I accomplished with very little life lessons and no knowledge of the business world, I did this with major dyslexia, Bipolar, depression and I never finished school. I had moved home 31 times by the age of 15. At one point I lived on the streets but I still made streetball my job and my life.

I remember to start Streetball Extreme I had to do a business plan for the Princess's trust. It was so hard to understand any of what they needed to present let alone make it a reality, but I believed in myself and what I wanted to do with this brand, and even though it was just myself at that time with no other streetball players, I new I could do this. I got the opportunity and started, soon we over took Streetball.co.uk as the UK's number one streetball website, then we took over Europe, then after I did that we took on every single streetball team in the world.

I would also like to thank all the music producers who provided SBX with music to use, the hosts and MC's again thank you. I would also like to give special thanks to Pete Wilson who was instrumental in helping Streetball Extreme, without Pete Streetball Extreme would of never have been what it was. The love I have for all involved is incredible. You all helped Streetball Extreme become what it was. I am very sorry for any personal mistakes I made along the way and I hope I helped create some great memories and experience's for everyone to take to the grave.

Extreme Sports Said: Extreme Hits the Beach and the Street for Two New Commissions in Aug 2006

Liberty Global owned Extreme Sports Channel has commissioned two new series for Summer 2006. The FIFA endorsed Euro Beach Soccer League as well as Streetball Extreme: Battle for Europe are being added to Extreme’s schedule as it continues to grow its portfolio of new and innovative sports content.Radio 1 and 5Live presenter DJ Spoony and sports commentator Natalie Pinkham will be co-hosting the Euro Beach Soccer League in a new six part series this summer.

Extreme are adding the urban sport Streetball to its roster this summer. The channel has commissioned an 8 x 1 hour series titled Streetball Extreme: Battle for Europe following the UK-based SBX team on a 12 day tour through Europe. We selected Chrome Productions to capture all the action as seven British players take on the best Streetball teams in Amsterdam, Berlin, Warsaw, Krakow, Lyon, Barcelona, Lisbon and Paris. As well as taking on all-star local teams in each city, the events will feature freestyle demos, live DJs and MC battles in prime European locations including a custom built Streetball court on the beach outside Lisbon. The SBX team has been carefully selected by Tom ‘Con Man’ Connors, a UK-based Streetball legend. When "Conman" approached us with his idea we looked into the Streetball world to find "Conman" to be one of the most popular players in the world with millions of views on his videos and download links. After selling the concept to us we were on board.

These are the latest new sports Extreme has introduced to its line-up in 2006. The channel recently provided live coverage of the video gaming competition, The Xbox Cup 2006, and plans to add more pro video gaming content to its schedule this year. The two new series will go to air on Extreme’s 5 international feeds of the channel from September.

Further information:

Streetball has its roots in basketball but with a greater emphasis on style and flair. The sport relies heavily on one-on-one match-ups between attacker and defender with players always looking to find the most innovative, rather than the most direct, ways to score.

THE STORY OF THE STREETBALL EXTREME LOGO

Streetball Extreme began with a basic outline of the 1st logo, "Conman" played around with many possible names before selecting the final name of Streetball Extreme. Soon Conman added the X-man, an outline of himself seen below doing the X. Although Streetball Extreme kept the 1st logo for the first 4 5 years it then became the wording of the name Streetball Extreme for easy reading and marketing purposes.

We later added a clothing line and merchandise which features some of the other designs below. The company changed from Streetball Extreme to SBX entertainment in 2011 and Streetball as we know it died and SBX Entertainment was born. For the sake of old times we have brought back the original Streetball Extreme logo for the website.
